This 1993 act passed by the Indiana General Assembly legalized riverboat gaming in the state of Indiana.
House Bill 1001 (Special Session)
Effective July 1, 2002, this legislation provides for dockside operations, increases casino wagering taxes and provides for revenue sharing for counties without riverboat casinos.
Indiana Gambling Impact Study Commission
The Commission's purpose was to study the economic and social impact of gambling on the state of Indiana. Formed by Governor O'Bannon, the Commission issued its final report in December 1999. The report included technical reports and findings, as well as recommendations for consideration. The commission's report indicated that the riverboat casino industry provides the state with strong economic benefits. While the Commission found minimal adverse social impact from the industry to date, it recommended ongoing study.
Indiana State Budget Agency
This state agency's mission is to achieve excellence in fiscal decision making and fiscal results on behalf of the governor and in support of the Indiana General Assembly. The State Budget Agency facilitates the processes of revenue forecasting, budget development and implementation, and it evaluates and communicates the fiscal and policy effects of legislative proposals.
Governor's Commission on Minority Business Development
This agency was created in 1983 to recognize the importance of Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) participation in state purchases. The Commission's charge is to explore and implement more ways Minority Business Enterprises can fully participate in the state procurement system. It is a multi-purpose service agency for all Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE), Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women Business Enterprise (WBE) vendors and contractors.
National Center for Responsible Gaming
The National Center for Responsible Gaming is the first national organization devoted exclusively to funding scientific research on problem and underage gambling. Its mission is to help individuals and families affected by problem gambling disorders and eliminate underage gambling.
National Gambling Impact Study Commission
Appointed by President Clinton, this nine-member panel comprised of both pro- and anti-gaming advocates conducted a comprehensive legal and factual study of gaming. The panel looked at the social and economic effects of gambling on federal, state, local, and Native American tribal governments as well as on communities and social institutions. The organization made its findings public in summer 1999.
