Smith Selected to be Casino Association Head

INDIANAPOLIS - The Casino Association of Indiana (CAI), the trade association of Indiana's casino industry, has selected Mike Smith to be its Executive Director effective December 1, 2002. Mr. Smith, a successful Indiana business owner, is also currently a member of the Indiana House of Representatives where he has served since 1993. "Having been a legislator these past 10 years, I have observed firsthand the impressive growth of the casino industry and know of its importance to our state's economic development, employment, tourism, and fiscal picture. Being the association executive for one of Indiana's most prominent and dynamic industries presents challenges and opportunities I look forward to undertaking."

Smith, a Republican from Rensselaer, first served in the Indiana House of Representatives in 1993 and has been reelected consecutively, including on November 5, 2002. "Not being a legislator will certainly be an adjustment, but I will not be far away. The casino industry is very highly regulated and the CAI is the industry voice at the legislature and before the Indiana Gaming Commission. My legislative experience will be very helpful as I undertake this new challenge."

"We are delighted to have as our Executive Director a person with the experience and leadership that Mike Smith possesses." said James L. Brown, President and General Manager of Casino Aztar in Evansville and the CAI's Board Chair. "He is unquestionably qualified to lead our association and represent our industry at this very important time."

The Casino Association of Indiana represents the state's casino industry and is headquartered in Indianapolis.
