Industry Overview
Indiana Riverboat Gaming Act: This law, effective July 1, 1993, was passed to spur job growth and development in "economically depressed areas of Indiana" and to "provide for significant economic development over a large geographic area."

Residents living in all Indiana counties that border Ohio and Lake Michigan were offered the opportunity to pass a referendum allowing casino gaming in their county. Since that time, the Indiana Gaming Commission has approved licenses to develop 13 casinos.
